We'll tell you a little bit about the talk with Malick Sanogo, who at the age of 15 is the scorer of the Union Berlin U17 and one of the top scorers in the B-Junioren Bundesliga Nord/Nordost.
Malick Sanogo was born in the United States on 30 June 2004 and grew up in Germany. He was a member of Union Berlin's youth team, with great skill, complemented by good speed and headers.
He can also represent Côte d'Ivoire, being the son of former international Boubacar Sanogo, who was also his coach at U15.
In August 2019 he made a U16 camp with Germany, where he added experience and shared among others, with Mansour Ouro-Tagha, a fellow of American roots who plays in the 1860 Munich U17.
Now 15, he plays for Union Berlin's U17, where he scored 17 goals in 21 matches with five games to go, including five braces, and was a team and league goalscorer with Tony Rölke of Hertha BSC, before everything was suspended due to Covid-19.
We were chatting with him and this is a bit of what he told us:
- MAXI: How old were you when you started to play football? Why did you choose?
- R: I was 3 years old when I started playing on the streets but my first club was when I was 6. I don’t really know the reason anymore but surely because of my dad who was looking games.
- MAXI: How is your football career in the Union Berlin youth team? Did your father coach you?
- R: I’m doing good at Union Berlin, I scored many goals since I’m here and I really progressed here. And if you mean advising out of the pitch, yeah he do it always and he coached our forwards for months.
- MAXI: You had a U16 camp with Germany last year. How did it go?
- R: I was there and it was a great experience to compare my level with the bests of my age. I don't really remember anymore, but I know we had a Training game and my team lost.
- MAXI: How have the youth teams experienced the coronavirus outbreak?
- R: We all did our program at home to stay fit.
- MAXI: A player to follow as a reference?
- R: My Idol is Cristiano Ronaldo, but I look at other players also (legends) and I can learn much by looking their videos.
- MAXI: Which national team would you like to represent in the senior national team?
- R: I didn’t have chosen yet, it’s a difficult choice.
- MAXI: What goals would you like to achieve?
- R: Next season I want to make my US-National Team debut, my u19 debut, maybe Train with the professional team, win one title with the u17 and finish as the best scorer of my league.
- MAXI: Thank you so much for everything. Good luck in the future, that all your wishes are fulfilled
- R: Thank you, I wish you the same
